Alexander Tsai, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, a staff psychiatrist in the Mass General Department of Psychiatry, and a member of the core faculty in the Robert Wood Johnson Health and Society Scholars Program at Harvard University. His research aims to understand how large-scale social forces affect the distribution of health and mental health among vulnerable populations in resource-limited settings. In South Africa and Uganda, he is the principal investigator for research studies on social networks, postpartum depression, rural livelihoods, and clean water. Dr. Tsai joined the faculty at Mass General in 2012 after completing a postdoctoral research fellowship as a Robert Wood Johnson Health and Society Scholar at Harvard University and his residency training in general adult psychiatry at the University of California at San Francisco. He and his wife Kristin are non-resident premedical tutors for Harvard undergraduate students at Eliot House.
