Professor Rosenberg, professor of the history of science and Ernest Monrad professor of the social sciences in the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences, is a distinguished historian of American medicine. He is author or editor of more than a dozen books, including The Cholera Years, The Care of Strangers: The Rise of America's Hospital System, and Explaining Epidemics and other studies in the History of Medicine. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine, has served as president of the American Association for the History of Medicine, was recipient of the George Sarton Medal from the History of Science Society in 1997, and is a member of the board of directors of the Center for Advanced Study on the Behavioral Sciences.
