Mayte is a medical doctor from Peru, where she completed her medical training at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Previously, Mayte worked as member of the Gender Equity Initiative in Global Surgery (GEIGS), advocating for underrepresented genders in surgery. She aspires to be an academic surgeon focused on strengthening health systems to withstand political, economic and social crises; increasing participation of developing countries in global health decision-making; and understanding healthcare from an intersectional perspective that works towards an inclusive design and delivery of its policies.
