Senior Lecturer on Global Health and Social Medicine

Sehamuddin Galadari is professor of biology, and senior vice provost for research outreach and managing director of the Research Institute at New York University – Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). He is also an emeritus professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Cell Biology at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and visiting professor, Division of Medical Sciences, Nuffield Department of Population Health, Oxford University UK. Professor Galadari also serves as board member and chairman of the scientific advisory committee of Al Jalila Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established by royal decree to support medical education and research. During a career spanning 27 years, Professor Galadari was the vice provost for Research and Graduate Studies at UAEU and before that associate dean for research and graduate studies at the CMHS, UAEU. He is a fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health and a fellow of the Society of Biology, UK.

Professor Galadari also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees, Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research, a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research, and senior advisor, Harvard Medical School Center for Global Health Delivery–Dubai.

Professor Galadari obtained his PhD in biochemistry in 1991 from Imperial College, London, and his BSc with honors, in 1987 from University of Southampton UK. He joined the CMHS as a faculty member in 1991 and helped in building the Department of Biochemistry. He contributed significantly to the development of the CMHS in Research and Education, and established the Cell Signaling Laboratory. Currently, he is the principal investigator at the Cell Death Signaling Laboratory at NYUAD.

Professor Galadari has been visiting professor to many well-known institutions such as Imperial College (UK), University of Glasgow (UK), Duke University Medical Centre (USA), Medical University of South Carolina (USA) and POSTECH (South Korea).

Professor Sehamuddin’s research interest revolves around cell death signaling and cancer biology, and he has published over 60 manuscripts in peer reviewed international journals and has supervised a number of postdoctoral fellows and PhD students.

Critical role of H2O2 in mediating sanguinarine-induced apoptosis in prostate cancer cells via facilitating ceramide generation, ERK1/2 phosphorylation, and Par-4 cleavage.
