Ana Cristina Sedas, MD, MMSc '21, is a Mexican-American bilingual-bicultural physician interested in the intersection between migration and health. She is currently working as project coordinator for a joint regional collaboration in Mexico, Peru and Chile with Johns Hopkins University, Lancet Migration and International Organization for Migration as well as team leader for Mexico on ¨Documenting the access to antenatal care of asylum seeking women at the US-Mexican Borders: A qualitative, exploratory study¨ in collaboration with the Harvard FXB Center for Human Rights and Migration.
Her previous work involved actively engaging with migrant communities and stakeholders while working at the Consulate General of Mexico in Boston (2016-2018), providing direct medical aid and counseling for migrants in transit through Mexico (2019-2020), medical adviser and healthcare provider for migrant and local populations in Monterrey Mexico (October 2020- February 2021), as well as attending high-level policy roundtables and/or leading keynotes and student-led discussions with the World Health Organization (November 2020-January 2021).
For her Master’s thesis, she worked in collaboration with the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the Harvard FXB Center for Health and Human Rights, and Lancet Migration on a ¨Biosocial Analysis of Migration and Health in Mexico, LAC and Beyond: Exploring the Right to Health for People on the Move Before, During and Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic¨ Her thesis is aimed at exploring the Right to Health for people on the move as well as propose a human-rights and people-centered framework for assessing access to healthcare for migrants. Her advocacy includes translational research into everyday delivery of care models to migrants and local communities in Monterrey, Mexico.
