Earls edits AAPSS Annals issue on the child as citizen

Felton Earls edited the recent issue of The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science (AAPSS), focusing on “The Child as Citizen.” The publication marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In an interview with Stephanie Marudas of the AAPSS, Dr. Earls describes his purpose as “establishing a historical, philosophical and scientific basis for children’s participation and children’s voice and opinions counting in the slow process of democratization. He reports some of his experience with children’s knowledge and abilities and highlights subjects and examples explored in “The Child as Citizen.” Dr. Earls is professor of social medicine, HMS, and professor of human behavior and development, Harvard School of Public Health.
