Kleinman Receives the Magnolia Silver Award

In recognition of his contribution to the development of medical anthropology and mental health research at Fudan, the Shanghai Mental Health Center, Zhongshan Hospital, and other institutions, Arthur Kleinman, MD, received the Magnolia Silver Award. On September 7, 2016, at the Presentation Ceremony of 2016 Shanghai Magnolia Silver Award was held by the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Goverment. Fifty people from 19 countries were given the prestigious award in recognition of their contributions to Shanghai's friendly exchanges, economic construction, and social development. While most recipients of this honor are CEOs for the world of business and commerce, Dr. Kleinman was one the of a few distinguished professors from academia.

A total of 1,059 people have received the Magnolia Silver Awards, named after Shanghai’s official flower, since they were inaugurated by the city government in 1989, Dr. Mary-Jo Good received this honor in 2012. Congratulations, Dr. Kleinman.
