Who Should Apply

The Master of Medical Sciences in Global Health Delivery program is designed for early- to mid-career professionals who have experience in global health settings and are ready to deepen their impact through research, program design, and leadership. Many applicants have a clinical degree, such as medicine or nursing, but a clinical degree is not required to enter the program. The prerequisites are an undergraduate degree and experience related to global health.

Relevant experience may include patient care, health care delivery, program management, social services, community health work, research, policy, nonprofit work, or volunteer experience connected to health care delivery. We encourage applicants from many areas of health care to apply, because improving health equity requires leaders with diverse professional backgrounds, lived experiences, and perspectives.

Choosing to pursue a master’s program is a personal decision. We advise prospective students to consult with current mentors, advisors, supervisors, or colleagues who can offer thoughtful feedback on whether this program aligns with their experience and goals. As you consider applying, you may also reflect on the following:

1. Your experience - Do you have one to two years of experience in health care delivery in a resource-limited setting? This experience could include providing patient care, managing a health care delivery program, supporting community-based health initiatives, conducting research, or delivering social services within a health program. A resource-limited setting can be anywhere in the world, including in the United States. Applicants should be prepared to describe how their experiences have shaped their understanding of health care delivery and the challenges communities face in accessing effective care.
2. Your research focus - What research project would you undertake within the MMSc-GHD program? All MMSc-GHD students complete a research project focused on health care delivery in a resource-limited setting. The resulting thesis is of publishing caliber. Strong applicants are able to identify a meaningful area of inquiry and explain why it matters to the communities, programs, or health systems they hope to serve. Your proposed research focus does not need to be fully developed before you apply, but you should be ready to discuss the questions, problems, or delivery challenges that motivate your interest.
3. Your future career - What are your career goals, and how could this program help you move toward them? The MMSc-GHD program is intended for applicants who seek leadership roles in global health delivery, especially in resource-limited settings. These roles may include clinical leadership, research, program design, implementation, management, policy, nonprofit leadership, or other forms of systems-level work. Applicants should consider how advanced training in research, leadership, and program design could help them contribute more effectively to the field.

The admissions committee considers how well an applicant’s experience, research interests, and future plans align with the purpose of the program. Successful applicants are often those who can connect what they have already done with what they hope to study, build, and lead in the future.
