Dr. Rakotonanahary holds a PhD degree in environmental and life sciences; he specialized in immunology, immunopathology, and immunodiagnostics. His dissertation was on “Risk assessment of rickettsial exposure in Madagascar: seroepidemiological study in humans and molecular detection of Rickettsia spp. in rodents’ fleas.” The Science Faculty of the University of Antananarivo, in Madagascar, awarded his PhD in March 2019.
Dr. Rakotonanahary seeks to advance his knowledge of health systems research at its intersection with immunology and immunopathology. Under the mentorship of Dr. Matthew Bonds, associate professor of Global Health and Social Medicine, Dr. Rakotonanahary will study the health system response to COVID-19 in a district of Madagascar. His knowledge of disease sero-surveillance and diagnostics in rural Madagascar provides a strong basis for pursuing this research. Dr. Bonds has developed a comprehensive integrated platform for COVID-19 research in Madagascar.
