There is a 2–5 times increased risk of developing a psychiatric disorder for people with epilepsy, and a lifetime psychiatric diagnosis occurs in 1 in 3 people with epilepsy1. This capstone paper elaborates on the biological and social factors that contribute to this high comorbidity rate and analyzes the stigma of epilepsy. I evaluate solutions that aim to promote the mental health of children with epilepsy, and I ultimately propose a teleplay as a public health intervention to address stigma, convey important information about epilepsy, and empower youths living with epilepsy.
