MMSc-GHD Faculty, Student, Alumni Involvement in COVID-19 Response
Many of the MMSc-GHD's faculty, alumni, and students are responding to COVID-19. Below highlights the work that these individuals are doing to reduce suffering around the world.
MMSc-GHD Program Director Joia Mukherjee, MD, MPH, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and HMS Associate Professor was awarded a 9 million dollar grant from the Audacious project to lead Partners In Health in the support of contact tracing for COVID around the country. MMSc-GHD faculty Salmaan Keshavjee, MD, PhD, ScM, was an author on the recommendation put out by PrEP4All "22 billion in the hole: Omicron's implications for global mRNA vaccine needs in 2022" which was reported on by the Washington Post.
Aneel Brar, MA, MMSc ‘16 and his non-profit, the Mata Jai Kaur Maternal and Child Health Centre, is coordinating with the local Rajashtani government on its COVID-19 response in his rural district. His village is going to become one of the response centers for cases in his area, and many of their facilities have been made available to the government to house medical personnel and provide space for quarantine. His team of counselors are still providing mental health care over the phone to local perinatal women whose vulnerability is heightened during the nationwide lock-down.
Sheriff Bangura, MMSc '19 is working with PIH on supply chain role-working across PIH health sites to sustain service delivery in times of disruption on COVID- 19.
Phenide Beaussejour, MD, MMSc '16 is working to coordinate a response to COVID-19 at UNICEF.
Elizabeth M Campa, MSc, MMSc ’20 is working closely with Zanmi Lasante on COVID-19 activities for Haiti as part of the Partners In Health global response.
Yusupha Dibba, MBChB, MMSc '20 is working with Partners In Health on the COVID-19 response.
Kobel Dubique, MD, MMSc '14 conducts COVID-19 research for his department at Zanmi Lasante in Haiti.
Fernet Leandre, MD, MMSc ‘14 has trained medical staff at the institutional level on COVID-19 for several sites in Haiti in Cange et Thomonde, and at the community-level at the church in Cange.
Alexander Miamen, MMSc '18 is working as a contact tracer with Partners In Health.
Melino Ndayizigiye, MD, MMSc ‘14 was appointed as the interim Executive Director for PIH in Lesotho since February 1. He is leading efforts to prevent and manage COVID-19 in PIH-supported facilities. He has also been supporting Lesotho's Ministry of Health in developing COVID-19 preparedness and response plan.
Thierry Nyatanyi, MD, MMSc ‘19 Senior Advisor on the COIVID-19 task force for Africa Center for Disease Control in Rwanda.
Lisa Parvin, MS, MMSc '19 is working with the British Columbia Centre on Substance Use in their efforts to mitigate risks of the ongoing overdose crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gloria Prado Pino, MD, MMSc ’19 has been appointed to lead the State Committee of Prevention, Control and Mitigation of COVID-19 in Choco, Columbia.
Ana Cristina Sedas, MD, MMSc '21 (expected) and Mercedes Aguerrebere, MD, MMSc '18 are the first two authors on the publication: Situational Brief: Migration in Mexico during the COVID-19 Pandemic published in Lancet Migration. Please find a PDF of the briefing here.
