For ten years, the Global Health Delivery Intensive (GHDI) program has worked in partnership with the MMSc-GHD program. We are proud that the initial offerings of GHDI in 2018 left students thirsty for more case-based, practical learning about implementing global health projects. All MMSc-GHD students still participate in the GHDI program taking three courses: Global Health Care Delivery, Epidemiological Methods for Global Health, and Management Practices in Health Care Delivery. The master’s students in GHDI work with other health professionals from around the world; in the last ten years, 550 students from 80 countries have become part of the GHDI network. Its strength and footprint are palpable when we hear from alumni meeting each other, meeting those they read about in the teaching cases, and guest experts across the globe.
In the words of one alum, “The biggest challenge was a shift in mindset toward the importance of being creative and innovative to be [sic] use the resources available. The case studies proved extremely valuable for this!” Another participant said that “the exposure to different models and leaders in global health delivery was the most critical element to the intensive.” After completing the program, many have been promoted to a new title or leadership position, and some transitioned to new organizations to lead foundations, ministries of health, and nonprofits.
With GHDI being the first chapter for many of the current and former MMSc-GHD students, we can only imagine the impact of the two-year training program on the movers and shakers sprinkled around the globe and the collective force of the public health leaders being trained. We look forward to working together in the decade ahead to support the upcoming cadre of health professionals striving to strengthen health care systems globally.
